Orange Mobile Broadband with Free Laptops

Orange are one of the most reputable mobile phone networks in the UK. They have a range of mobile broadband services on offer some of which are bundled with free laptops.

Connection: Orange Mobile Broadband

The two most important things when it comes to mobile broadband is the range of connectivity and the speed. Orange mobile broadband claims to have a good connection speed of up to 3.6Mbps so even those who want to download large files should be satisfied with it. However you should always check on the Orange website to see what the 3G connection speed is like in your area before you buy as it can vary. The coverage of the Orange network is good and it will rarely drop the connection.  If you’re travelling a lot with your laptop then this is even more important than connection speeds in some cases.

Prices: Orange Mobile Broadband

The prices for Orange mobile broadband start at only £10 a month and can be even cheaper for already existing customers. For example the Internet Everywhere package for existing Orange customers is only £5 a month and offers 500MB a month of data allowance. This is one of the cheapest options available on the market and is a good choice if you are only going to be doing light internet surfing.

If you aren’t an Orange customer then the cheapest package you can get starts at £10 a month. For this you get 1GB of data allowance as well as a free dongle.

Dongle and Software: Orange Mobile Broadband

The dongle itself looks great and installs the drivers automatically on a Windows machine so you don’t have to worry about any tricky software installations. This means that you can plug your dongle into the laptop and be on the internet within minutes. There have been some common complaints on the internet about the quality of the Orange dongle though and that it is easy to break, although for every negative review there is another saying that they are very impressed by the whole of Orange’s service.

The Orange connection software isn’t brilliant but does everything that is required of it. There are several small annoying features such as the location of the “Connect” button being in an un-intuitive place but on the whole it is a solid piece of software.

Summary of Orange Mobile Broadband Services

While the maximum speed of 3.6MBps on the Orange network is more than enough for most people unfortunately the majority of Orange customers won’t get anywhere near this speed. The Orange network doesn’t have a good reputation as being of a high quality so don’t be surprised if your download speeds aren’t what you hoped. However, for the average user the download and upload speeds will fine for accessing websites, watching YouTube videos and streaming online music.

While Orange broadband isn’t the best of all the UK networks it certainly isn’t the worst. If you are looking for stability regarding connectivity and reasonable but not lightning fast speeds then it is definitely a good choice. The software and dongle are easy to install and use too which is always a bonus.
